I am looking to purchase a new HDTV (either 40" or 42"). Plasma or LCD? What brand?

The TV will be located in the master bedroom with little lighting. It will be mainly used for watching news and sports. I may add a gaming console at some point, but not immediately.

I purchased this Television from Amazon (Paul’s Tv) according to reviews on Amazon, CNET, and a couple of other websites. This Tv is great. The size is perfect (for my room at least) and the quality of the picture is incredible. I’ve have this hooked up to a Denon AVR-1312 and Polk Audio Blackstone TL2600 speaker set. This setup is not top of the line by any means, but all of this comes highly recommended for me. I have a Samsung 63" Plasma HDTV. It just lost all video, but still has audio and led power lights. HELP?

Model # PN63B550T2FXZA. I lost all Video – no menu even, but I still have both audio and the red power light. Other than the standard unplug from the wall for 30 minutes (I’ll give it 3 times that for power chip reset), what else should/can I do? The set is a just over a year old and has had no problems till now. If not under Warranty, what is typical repair and cost, and can it be done in the home?

So you’re planning on making an investment in a new digital TELEVISION antenna but are doubtful of which type to get. Well, the very first thing you need to look at is where you intend to use this new antenna. Your location plays the biggest role in your call, and not taking this factor under consideration will no doubt result in interrupted signals, puny transmission, and perhaps even ghost-like images. These aren’t things you need showing on your TV. You want an antenna that will work perfectly and without any signal interruptions, and it’s possible!

Take a note of where you plan on installing your new antenna. Is the property found in a major metropolitan city or one of its many suburbs? Big towns like San Francisco, Long Island, and Philadelphia tend to broadcast all the local network TVs ‘ stations thru a single, central tower. Additionally, most suburbs of a major metropolitan city are located within thirty to forty miles of the important town, so an indoor antenna, in this situation, would be a good choice.

An inside antenna’s range can reach up to fifty miles and is suitable for your in-city or in-metropolitan home or business. Designed for in-home use atop your entertainment system or TELEVISION stand, the indoor antenna is compact and its updated design is surely not a sore sight to the eyes. Let’s have a look at the indoor antenna’s counterpart, the outside antenna. You will notice that the outside antenna is seriously larger, which is a dead give away that it cannot be put on your entertainment stand, unless you need a large, metallic object with many limbs as a decoration in your lounge. The outside antenna’s larger design is so it has a larger surface area, thus enlarging its signal strength. Its range can reach up to a hundred miles or even more, depending naturally on the model, and is ideal for just about any location : the country, a suburb, or the town. In almost all cases, an outside antenna is a smarter choice than using an inside antenna.

Another area you can install your antenna is your attic room. Although not endorsed by some, the fact remains that it has worked for many before, and it might work for you. As the roof comprises many building materials, which include metal and aluminium siding, it’ll interfere with your antenna’s signal transmission, but placing your antenna in an optimum location away from these metal and aluminium building materials will considerably improve its prospects of getting a clear and direct line of sight to the broadcast towers.
